UređivačNapisao Carlos|Srp. 18, 2021 u City Guide (Rhodes)

Rhodes is the largest of the Greek Dodecanese islands and the historical capital of the island group. Known for its incredible food, beautiful natural scenery, and interesting history, Rhodes is one of the best places to visit in all of Europe. With 541 square miles of majestic landscape to explore, the best way to get the most out of your time on the island is to explore by ATV.

Rhodes is believed to have been inhabited by humans in prehistoric times, and while little remains of their culture, the Minoans settled on the island in the 16th century and left lasting marks on the island’s cultural heritage. The history of Rhodes is long, interesting, and turbulent at times. On top of its rich culture, this beautiful island offers pristine beaches and lush flora and fauna. Hopping on a quad bike is the best way to explore Rhodes on your own terms.

Is It Safe to Drive an ATV in Rhodes?

Most people find driving on the island to be fairly safe and easy. While the roads can be a bit narrow, they are mostly well paved, and the local drivers are more relaxed and respectful than drivers in mainland Greece.

That being said, you should be very careful while driving a hired scooter or a hired quad bike in Rhodes. In Greece, they drive on the right side of the road, and you must always give the right of way when you approach a junction. Getting used to driving in a foreign country is always a challenge, so drive defensively.

It is not recommended to drive an ATV on the highways in Rhodes. Most quad bikes do not go fast enough to keep up with the flow of traffic, and will end up causing congestion.

What Is the Price of Quad Rental in Rhodes?

In general, hiring a quad in Rhodes is very affordable on any budget. You can easily find a 200cc quad for as little as €20 per day. That price will often include delivery to your accommodation as well.

If you want to drive something a bit more powerful, you can typically find 300cc quads for around €30 per day and 400cc quads for around €50 per day.

If you plan on staying on the smaller roads, a 200cc ATV will be perfectly sufficient for getting around. If you want to go on the highways, it’s definitely better to get a more powerful ATV.

Where Can You Hire an ATV in Rhodes?

If you plan on flying into Rhodes Diagoras International Airport, there are several ATV rental services located close to the airport terminals. However, to ensure that you will have an ATV waiting for you when you arrive, it’s better to book a quad bike online before you arrive on the island. There are many services who will deliver your quad directly to the airport, so you can drive straight to your accommodation.

If you’re going to arrive at Mandraki Port by boat or at the ferry terminal, you will be able to find ATV rental very close by. Most ships arrive very close to Niohori, one of the most vibrant parts of the city of Rhodes. There will be plenty of rental shops around as soon as you step off the boat.

Do You Need an International Driving Permit to Hire a Quad in Greece?

In Greece, all foreign drivers are required to carry an international driving permit as well as a valid copy of their passport with them at all times while operating a motor vehicle. This law applies to cars, scooters, motorcycles, and quads.

If you want to hire an ATV while in Rhodes, you’ll have to apply for an international driving permit at least two weeks before arriving on the island. There is a $20 application fee, and you can apply here. Your permit should arrive in the mail in under two weeks and is valid for one year.

Keep in mind that while the legal driving age in Greece is 18 years old, many rental shops may not let you hire an ATV if you are under the age of 21.

What Are the Nicest Places in Rhodes to Explore by ATV?

Now that you’re aware of everything you need to rent a quad bike in Rhodes, here are some of the best places on the island to explore with your rented wheels:

Palace of the Grand Master

Located right in the heart of the Rhodes Old Town, the Palace of the Grand Master is an enlightening cultural experience that will give you a glimpse of what life was like in the 14th century.

Originally built during as a Byzantine citadel in the 7th century, the palace was renovated during the occupation of the Knights of the Order of Saint John, and it’s still one of the only examples of Gothic architecture to this day. The Palace of the Grand Master is closed on Mondays, but if you’re into history, you definitely don’t want to miss out on visiting.

Acropolis of Lindos

If you drive about an hour south of the city of Rhodes, you’ll find one of the most interesting historical landmarks on the island, the Acropolis of Lindos. Parking near this attraction can be a bit tricky, but your best bet is to look for a parking lot near St. Paul’s Bay or Atmosphere Bay, which are both just a short walk away.

The Acropolis of Lindos is the ancient remains of a citadel that sits high on a cliff. The site offers incredible views of the ocean and the opportunity to walk through massive stone walls. The citadel dates back to the 4th century BC and is often considered the most impressive historical site on the island.

Saint Paul’s Beach

It would be an absolute shame not to spend some time on the beach while in Greece, and while you’re at the Acropolis of Lindos, take another 5 minute drive south to Saint Paul’s Beach. Compared to the beaches in the north of the island, Saint Paul’s Beach is far less touristy, and every bit as beautiful.

You can admire the surrounding cliffs, relax on the beautiful white sand, or take a dip in the soothing waters of the Aegean Sea.

Get on a Quad and Go

Whatever you plan to do during your stay in Rhodes, the best way to explore the island on your own terms is by hiring a quad. You can ride through the curving backroads, explore unfrequented shores, and make your way to all of Rhodes’s cultural landmarks with ease and convenience!
