Medellin – nicknamed the City of Eternal Spring – is the capital of Colombia’s Antioquia region. Because of its position close to the Aburra Valley, it offers some of the best motorcycling terrain in the world, bar none. The city is high – around 5,000 feet – and is home to some 2.6 million people as of 2020.
It’s also incredibly safe for tourists, with violent crime being low. The city is served by José María Córdova International Airport located 20 miles away. Access to the urban area is via roads which sprawl out in all directions into the surrounding countryside.
Those using a motorcycle hire or scooter hire in Medellin can easily access all of the city’s attractions. Top of the list is the Plaza Botero featuring 23 large sculptures, close to the metro station. You can also take a trip on the Metrocable once you’re done, a cable-car system that the city implemented to move people around quickly and reduce time stuck in traffic.
If you decide to leave the city on a motorbike or quad, you’ll want to head to Guatapé. Around 90 km out of the town, it is home to some unique rock formations which soar up to 200 meters out of the ground. Lastly, you might want to visit the Museum House of the Memory.
This interesting place chronicles Medellin’s sordid history of armed conflict. It’s free to enter. The best way to get around the region is on a rental motorcycle, so if you travel to Medellin, don’t forget to bring your helmet.
