Whether flying into Munich Airport or driving in via the autobahn, Glashutten serves as an inviting gateway to Bavaria’s picturesque German Alps region. Getting your own set of motorbike wheels is the best way to explore this charming area in style. Scooter hire, motorcycle hire and quad hire options abound, offering the freedom to discover Glashutten and beyond at your own pace.
Glashutten itself boasts perfectly preserved Bavarian architecture along with world-renowned watchmaking factories. Stroll the towpath bordering the River Loisach to take in the timber-framed houses overlooking the water. Pop into one of the local biergartens to sample regional specialties like weisswurst sausages and obatzda cheese spread.
No visit is complete without touring the German Watchmaking Museum to marvel at the region’s horological history. Just outside town lies a scenic landscape dotted with crystal-clear lakes that beg for a dip. Alpine vistas open up in every direction, revealing hiking trails threading through forests and flower-filled meadows.
The riding possibilities feel endless here. Twist up into the peaks to find panoramic lookout points and quaint villages where time stands still. Or head north to visit Neuschwanstein Castle, the fairy-tale inspired retreat of Bavaria’s Mad King Ludwig II.
Along with its natural splendor, the surrounding area offers fascinating stops for history buffs. Drive an hour west to see Linderhof Palace, another lavish Ludwig creation. Or journey south to experience the lively university city of Munich, filled with Baroque churches, beer halls and high-tech industries.
With so much to do in every direction, having your own motorbike rental makes getting around Glashutten a breeze.
