Kerkira, more commonly called Corfu, is a beautiful Greek island and a wonderful place to go on a motorbike or scooter tour. Being in the heart of the Aegean Sea to the east of the Greek mainland, it offers a combination of impeccable weather and rich history. Corfu is served by Aerolimenas Kerkiras Ioannis Kapodistrias – the local airport.
You can also access the island via ferry, although trips are not as frequent. When you arrive in Kerkira, be sure to check out the Old Town first. Here you’ll find a labyrinth of cobbled streets surrounded by pale yellow and orange buildings.
You’ll also want to check out the esplanade. The esplanade is a large square that looks similar to the Venetian fortifications the city state built in the 17th century. If you enjoy history, you might also want to check out St Spyridon Church with its unusual red-capped clock tower.
Heading out into the countryside, you can visit Mount Pantokrator, Corfu’s highest peak. Here you’ll find some great riding roads – an ideal venue after your trip on your motorcycle hire or quad. Beaches on Corfu are also a major attraction.
One of the best is Paleokastritsa thanks to the beautiful cliffs that surround it. Corfu is close to some other beautiful Greek islands. Paxi, for instance, offers a wild natural landscape and access via the port of Gaios.
Pounda is just off Paxi’s east coast and offers deserted beaches. You can also get a boat to Lefkada for the famous beach at Porto Katsiki.
