Rafina is a town situated on the eastern coast of Attica on mainland Greece. It is only 32kms from the center of Athens, the famous capital of Greece. It is a port town with ferries and ships leaving for many of the Greek islands.
Rafina has been inhabited since prehistoric times, some 5000 or more years ago. Rafina is a small town and is mostly made up of woodland and farmland. For tourists, there is Martikes Beach with a great Beach Bar and the Paralia Artemidos beachfront just the next cove to the south with several bars, cafes, and restaurants.
There are plenty of historical sites to visit in and near Rafina, such as the Prehistoric Settlement Askitario and the Temple of Artemis Tauropolos. If you want to visit these sites in the best way possible, why not hire a motorcycle where you can traverse the ancient streets and allow the wind through your hair. It also makes it easier to travel to the next cove and check out the life down there.
Rafina's close proximity to Athens makes it a great location too. It makes it very simple to have a day out to this capital city and enjoy all the sights it can muster up. If you fancy somewhere a little different, then to the north, there is the town of Dikastika, or the Schinias National Park.
There is also the Archaeological Site of Ramnous just a little further to the north and the Archaeological Site of Brauron just to the south of the town Rafina.
