The island of Skopelos makes for the ultimate Greek island motorbike adventure. Arriving into Skiathos Airport, Skopelos is just a short ferry ride away across the Aegean Sea. Hiring a scooter or quad bike is the best way to explore this lush, mountainous island at your own pace.
Skopelos Town is the first stop, with its labyrinth of whitewashed houses and flower-adorned alleyways cascading down to the harbor. Wander the cobbled streets and sample fresh seafood at the tavernas before heading into the island's interior. Twist up precarious roads carved into pine-covered hillsides via scooter or ATV, stopping to admire panoramic views of the coastline framed by turquoise waters below.
The southwest coast boasts some of the island's most dramatic scenery. Rugged cliffs plunge down to secluded pebble coves only accessible by sea or via daring cliffside tracks by motorbike. Elios is one of the most photogenic villages, with pastel-hued cottages clustered around a tiny harbor.
Further inland, visit medieval monasteries perched dramatically on hilltops surrounded by olive groves and forests of aleppo pine. Don't miss the UNESCO-listed, late-Byzantine Church of St. John, covered in exquisite frescoes. With so much natural beauty and ancient history to uncover, hiring a motorbike on Skopelos lets you roam freely through lush forests and along empty coastlines for the ultimate off-the-beaten-path Greek island adventure.
