Fans of William Shakespeare will know Verona; this is the site where Romeo and Juliet quickly fell in love and lived out their tragedy. Even if you’ve never seen the play, you’ll find plenty of romance in the city, which is part of the Veneto region of Italy. It’s close to the more popular Venice, but visitors to Verona often mention that it offers a more relaxed and charming trip than its more famous big brother.
To get there, you can fly into Verona’ Catullo’ Airport, or even travel to the Port of Venice and then make the trip with a scooter or motorcycle hire. Once you’re there, you’ll be able to enjoy all the wonders of the city. The most famous attraction spot is the Arena, which was constructed in the 1st century and is one of the world’s largest amphitheatres.
With a scooter hire or quad hire, you can make the short ten minute trip to the Basilica of St Zeno, one of the most beautiful churches in Italy. There’s also the Castel San Pietro -- situated above the amphitheatre -- and the Giardino Giusti, an exquisite renaissance garden. And of course, you must visit Juliet’s house, which is, so they say, the inspiration for the balcony scene in Romeo and Juliet.
There are plenty of outstanding destinations within easy reach, although journeys might be best if you rent a larger motorcycle; there’s the iconic Venice, trendy Milan, and the beautiful Lake Garda, all of which are worth some of your time, while Brescia and Mantova provide an insight into more traditional Italian life.
