Mexico is one of the most culturally diverse countries in the world, with endless color, food, music, and traditions to satisfy the most discerning travel seeker and also the most authentic, and everything in between. The closest airport is Cancún International which is around 45 minutes to the north of the city. Now, if you hire a motorcycle, you’re going to love yourself a little more than you did the day before, because the drive to Playa (not necessarily for everyone mind you), will show off some of the Mexico that you won’t always get to see.
Forget what you see in the press and the movies, Mexicans are by design some of the most warm-hearted and hospitable people on the planet, and with year-round great weather, it’s a drive you’ll remember forever. In ‘Playa’ itself, as she’s affectionately known, hiring a scooter or motorbike gets you to La Quinta Avenida, the beach clubs, scuba diving, the must-see Frida Kahlo museum, and the Rio Secreto or ‘Secret River’. Take a ferry to Cozumel Island, hire a scooter or motorbike or a four-wheeler and drive around the whole island in less than a day, taking in amazing beaches tequila tours (but not if you’re driving!
), and if you can handle boatloads of cruise tourists, you’ll meet some crazy people too. Cancún, Isla Mujeres, and Chemax are all well worth exploring, but meanwhile, back in Playa you’ll be spoiled for choice with awesome beach bars and watersports - and even though we’ve mentioned it already, man - the food!
