Cuzco – also called Cusco – is a city located in the Peruvian Andes and was one the capital of the ancient Incan empire. It offers spectacular views, great hotels and plenty of motorcycling opportunities. Most tourists arrive in Cuzco via Alejandro Velasco Astete Cusco International Airport.
It has a completely paved runway, and lies close to the city itself. Scooter hire and motorcycle hire is available at the terminal as well as other nearby locations, but its always best to reserve online to avoid disappointment. Cuzco is a UNESCO World Heritage Center because of its long and rich history.
Tourists like visiting the archaeological remnants of the city and marveling at the Spanish architecture from the colonial period. Interestingly, Cuzco, is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the Western Hemisphere and stands at an elevation of more than 11,150 feet. Those heading to the city should check out the San Blas district.
It’s located well away from the main tourist areas and provides opportunities to wander around the Plaza San Blas and find interesting cafes, shops and restaurants. Heading out of the city, you can go and visit the enigmatic Rainbow Mountain. Unusual rock formations mean that this mountain has blue, red, orange and purple stripes.
Cuzco is isolated. La Paz is many hours drive to the south. As such, there aren’t any major nearby settlements to explore.
However, if you are in the area, you may want to travel to famous natural landmarks, such as Pachatusan and Chicon. Exploring on a motorcycle will take you through many valleys and past the lakes, rivers and streams that carpet the area.
