Arriving into Samui Airport puts you on the doorstep of Thailand's second largest island. With such a large area to explore, getting your own set of wheels with a scooter hire or motorcycle hire allows you the freedom to discover secluded beaches, jungle waterfalls, and coastal viewpoints at your own pace. The island has something for everyone, from buzzing beach towns to sleepy fishing villages.
Chaweng is the lively epicentre with its palm-fringed beach and buzzing nightlife. For a more relaxed vibe, head to Choeng Mon with its beautiful crescent bay or Bophut with its mix of boutique hotels and boho cafes. Inland, the mountainous interior is dotted with tropical fruit plantations and jungle dotted with waterfalls and viewpoints.
A scooter is the easiest way to navigate the winding roads to reach sights like the imposing Big Buddha statue, the picturesque Na Muang waterfalls hidden among the dense jungle, and treetop canopy walkways with panoramic views across the whole island. Ko Samui also makes a great base for day trips to nearby islands like Koh Phangan, famous for its full moon beach parties, and Koh Tao, renowned for its excellent scuba diving spots. A short boat ride away lies the Ang Thong National Marine Park, an archipelago of 42 pristine islands with stunning lagoons to explore.
With convenient transport options, stunning scenery and a lively yet laidback vibe, Ko Samui has something to offer every type of traveller. Hiring a scooter or motorbike opens up a whole new level of adventure and freedom to immerse yourself in the island’s natural wonders, local culture, and tropical island lifestyle.
